Bollywood Night – Tamil Women’s Organisation

Thank you to all our donors, we have met our fundraising goal.

We, the Tamil Womens’ Organisation (TWO), are a small group of women who put aside our busy schedules to raise funds for organisations providing much needed support in the North and East of Srilanka. For our second event this year we are delighted to support Palmera’s Women’s Banking Network project.

This project will work with 110 women to help connect them to mainstream financial services. This will allow women to save and access loans to meet their needs and those of their families. Individually, it provides an avenue for women to engage with financial activity and strengthens their financial literacy skills. For as little as $56 per lady per year the project can be achieved. We think this is such a great initiative and are thrilled to be supporting it.

About 15 years ago TWO held a Bollywood night to support tsunami victims and it was a sold out event and we’ve had similar interest for this year too.  Our first Bollywood event involved great food, dancing and company and this year’s event did the same.

TWO members are very pleased to share that our event was a great success. A fantastic night was had by all including Bollywood dance performances and even a dance lesson for all guests in the famous, Lunghi Dance!

Most of all we are pleased to announce that we were able to raise $10,000 for Palmera which was then matched by one of our guests, who was inspired by Palmera’s work on the night! Local business owners of Centex Homes allowed our donations to reach $10,000 for this project!

Neil and Gana’s Wedding

Thank you to all our donors, we have met our fundraising goal.

Gana and I are getting married this November. We are so thrilled and excited for our big day.

Earlier this year Gana and I did one of the most amazing things together, we went on the Palmera Village Experience trip to Sri Lanka. This journey gave us both a chance to give back to the Sri Lankan communities that have suffered from the 30 year long civil war in a meaningful way. We learnt a lot about what Palmera does, how it helps these communities and how much it really makes a difference to people’s livelihoods. It made us want to give back more!

We wanted Palmera to be part of our big day in some way. So we decided that instead of favours we would instead donate the money to Palmera in the name each of our guests. We wanted in particular to support the Connecting to markets project.

This project will help build thriving business farms in the village of Kanthansamy Nagar. In this village building a thriving farm costs as little as $349 per farmer; which is only $78 a year over the 5-year programme. Each of the 105 farmer will learn how to compete and be successful within the farming marketplace and the skills they learn will help them break down barriers that keep them excluded. We think that’s money well spent!

We can’t wait to see what our guests think about our idea. We hope they love and appreciate it.  We think it’s an amazing way to kick off our married life together!

Xavier’s Christening

Xavier’s Christening

Thank you to all our donors, we have met our fundraising goal.

Xavier and his brother Noah have been born into a life of privilege; one with a safe home, access to a good education and quality healthcare. Far more than those in the North-East of Sri Lanka have. So we wanted to take this opportunity on a very special day for Xavier, to give to an organisation that is helping to support a community that is close to our hearts.

We ask that if you wish, in lieu of a gift, you make a donation to Palmera Projects and help enrich the lives of those who have been afforded fewer opportunities than our boys.

All donations go towards Palmera’s Easy As Peanuts project.

Thank you for your generosity x

Sambavi’s Village Experience

Thank you to all our donors, we have met our fundraising goal.

Hi everyone!

My name is Sam, and I’ve been volunteering with Palmera for almost three years now! It is a brilliant Australian-run NGO that is really close to my heart. Palmera works with communities in the North and East of Sri Lanka, especially with women, rural entrepreneurs and farmers, to innovate sustainable solutions and allow them to lead dignified lives in the aftermath of a long-running civil war.

I’m going on a Village Experience trip with 9 other individuals in January 2018 to experience first-hand the economic and social initiatives that Palmera has instituted in many of these rural communities. I’m excited to see the sustainable economic and social model that Palmera has self-innovated- called the Village 2 Markets Program- which is being run in many of these communities and has allowed many individuals to raise their livelihood and markedly improve their opportunities in life.

I hope to ask for your support and garner a lot of fundraising so we can contribute to this program, which will directly impact beneficiaries on the ground. I will be raising funds for the Livelihood Kickstarter project. This project will directly impact 36 small farmers and benefit over 120 people. We will introduce new technologies and practices that will increase yield and prevent losses during flooding. Through this the income of these farmers will increase and help them better meet their needs and goals.

I’ll keep you updated on my journey to Sri Lanka and on my Village Experience trip! Please donate to my trip and thank you all for your generosity!!

Vanitha’s 40th Birthday

Thank you to all our donors, we have met our fundraising goal.

Dear friends,

I am looking forward to seeing you all at my 40th birthday party. If you are considering bringing gifts, I would really appreciate if you could instead channel those funds as donations to Palmera.

Palmera is a not-for-profit organisation that focuses mainly on helping people in Sri Lanka who have been disenfranchised and displaced due to the civil war that stretched over two decades. I love their approach which is to provide resources to farmers and rural entrepreneurs which in turn enable them to be self-sufficient and financially independent.

The funds from your donation will go to Palmera’s Womens Banking Network project.

I hope you would support my campaign and help others who are less privileged. See you on the 28th.

Lots of Love,

Vanitha

Indian Dance School Annual Concert – 2017

Thank you to all our donors, we have met our fundraising goal.

Did you know 60 million primary aged children are not in school. This fact shocked but also motivated me to support Palmera. We at Indian Dance School teach dance to so many young children and can’t imagine a life where they aren’t able to go to school.

The Indian Dance School is all about building a dance community and developing dance confidence and skills. Every year we organize a concert to showcase our dancers and what they’ve learnt over the year. This is one of the most exciting times of the year for IDS. This year we chose Palmera to give our proceeds to from the concert. As a women I love that Palmera support vulnerable women in the community and help them be independent, I also love that they support young children to live life and be care free.

We have been long-term supporters of Palmera and would love to help them create a world where no one is left out.

Please support us support Palmera and buy a ticket to an action packed night of dance.

FOMO 2 – Maya Youth in Performing Arts

Thank you to all our donors, we have met our fundraising goal.

FOMO 1 was such a big success that we decided to do a sequel. FOMO 2 is our first production for 2017. With over 20 performers and 2 shows we are gearing up for a big month. FOMO 2 is a musical comedy about a boy who learns to use his imagination to lead over life’s greatest hurdles.

We at MAYA have made a long term commitment to Palmera. We are working with the Thervipuram village to help families re-establish themselves after the civil war. We believe in the philosophy “giving a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime”. So this is why we will be partnering with Palmera to achieve just that.

By laughing along to our show you are contributing to creating a new story for these families.

With less than a week to go to FOMO 2 we are already sold out one of our shows.

We cant wait to celebrate with you all on Deven’s big day and cant wait to share with him one day the difference this day had in the world. Thank you so much for making that possible for him!

‘Fall of the Wall’ Charity Ball

Thank you to all our donors, we have met our fundraising goal.

We at EmpowerMEnt have always been big supporters of Palmera and have a very close relationship with the team. So when we decided to hold our Charity Ball we really wanted to use this as a platform to help promote Palmera, an organisation so close to our hearts.

EmpowerMEnt is a Melbourne based Charity with a mission to build awareness on currency social justice matters, and more specifically, with organisations that aid innocent civilians that have faced the negative repercussions of war and terror.

We believe Palmera aligned perfectly with our mission as they do a great job in aiding civilians in Sri Lanka to help rebuild a sustainable life post-war through their various projects.

We are very excited about our upcoming Ball which will help educate, build awareness and generate funds towards such an important pending matter. With less than two weeks to go we are busy organising all the on-the-day details.

We hope you can join us for a memorable night.
