Nimesha’s home sits at the edge of the woods, isolated from the rest of her community. She’s brining up two small children there. It’s small mud hut, poorly built, with not much standing between her family and whatever’s outside.

The roof floods whenever it rains and the holes in the walls don’t help keeping reptiles and animals out of the shelter.

It was near that home, about a year ago, that a bee colony was disturbed and swarmed. All four of them, Nimesha, her husband, and their two children, were stung badly enough to fall seriously ill. Her younger child, only two, was already living with pediatric hepatitis at the time, and still struggles with speech and communication.

Her husband collects and sells firewood from the forest. It’s work that pays when it’s available and doesn’t when there’s none. And there are many days when he makes nothing. With barely having enough to eat, having a safe and stable house seems like a dream to Nimesha.

But she talks about it with hope while carrying her baby.

She wants to give her children somewhere safe to sleep, without the rain pouring in. Somewhere to rest without worrying about what animals could have crawled in at night.
