When we first met Saraswathy and her husband, their lives were overshadowed by pain and uncertainty. Her husband, once able to provide, was left unable to work because of a serious heart condition. Saraswathy carried the heavy burden of caring for him and managing the household, all while fighting her own battles. Years of constant worry and hardship had taken a heavy toll on her mental health, forcing her to seek monthly treatment just to keep going. Each day was a struggle to afford even the basics—food, medicine, and the necessities of daily life.
Yet, despite the weight of it all, Saraswathy’s deepest wish was simple—to find stability and dignity for her family. But with no steady income and overwhelming health challenges, that dream felt out of reach. What we saw was not just a couple in need—it was a woman’s unshakable strength, a husband’s quiet courage, and their shared hope for a brighter tomorrow, waiting for someone to stand with them.
We’ve captured their voice so you can hear their story.
Vanakkam(greetings), my name is Arumugam Saraswathi, and I live in Manikapuram village.
(Palmera established a village bank in our community to develop financial literacy—a place where we could save and access loans to reduce our debt from predatory lenders).
I have greatly benefited from the weekly village bank established by Palmera. With the help of this group, I started fruit and vegetable cultivation, which has helped me meet my food needs. Although I had been disappointed by asking for help from many people. Palmera came to my aid by helping me build a goat shed to raise goats for my livelihood. With their tremendous support, I also contributed a small amount of my own money and built a goat shed, which has brought me great satisfaction.
As a differently abled person, I had often been worried that no one would provide the livelihood I needed, leaving me without a way to support myself. However, Thanks to Palmera for visiting me and helping with my goat farming business I am also deeply grateful to the family from Australia who supported me. My heartfelt gratitude to you. Thank you so much!
We are incredibly happy and thankful to the family of Vishala SriPathma, who lives in Australia, for their generous help towards the this family. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to your family.
