You Backed them and things began to change

Family Supported - Rajeshwary (Batticaloa)

“There are times when the family only had one serving for porridge to eat.”

Rajeshwary is 59 and lives in Batticaloa, in Eastern Sri Lanka, with her husband. He is old and cannot work, and neither of them able to work now. They have two sons and two daughters, all of them are married. Their two sons give a little money each month to help with the house. It’s enough for some rice, but not much else. Sometimes they eat only rice, without any curry. Some days, they don’t even have enough to pay for their basic needs, like a little oil, vegetables, or medicine.

Life is not easy for Rajeshwary and her husband. They both go to the clinic regularly because they have health problems. They have blood pressure and cholesterol issues, and her husband also smokes, which affects his health. Sometimes they feel weak, dizzy, or too tired to cook or clean because of their age.

Even with sickness and these daily struggles, Rajeshwari manages with what she can every day. She takes care of the house and uses the small money from her children to keep life going. They live day to day, and she works as best as she can, to make sure they have what they need to get through each day.
