When we met Podi, her home felt heavy with sorrow — the kind of silence that speaks of pain too deep for words. She is a mother of three, carrying burdens no mother should ever have to face. One of her daughters endured a terrible trauma after being molested, leaving her mentally unwell and fragile ever since. Her eldest also struggles with severe mental illness, and her husband is sick and unable to work.
The entire weight of survival falls on Podi’s shoulders. She cooks, cares, and carries everyone, but there is never enough. Her youngest child longs for school, yet too often stays home because they cannot afford even the small costs of education. Some days, there is barely food on the table.
Each moment of her life is a battle — not just for food, but for dignity, safety, and the fragile hope of a better tomorrow. What moves us most is her quiet resilience. Behind her tired eyes lives a plea: for her children to dream beyond pain and poverty, and to one day live in light instead of sorrow.
We’ve captured their voice so you can hear their story.
