You Backed them and things began to change

When we first met Nadeesha, her presence was quiet and fragile. She struggled to find the right words, her thoughts sometimes scattered, but beneath her uncertainty was a deep love for her children and a heart weighed down by hardship.
At 38 years old, Nadeesha is a mother doing everything she can to care for her three children alone. Life became too overwhelming, and her husband left, leaving her to face each day without the support she desperately needs. Among her children, one has a disability and requires constant care and attention.
When Nadeesha goes to work, she must leave her disabled child in the care of relatives. She worries deeply about her daughter’s safety and well-being, knowing that the relatives do their best, but also fearing the harsh treatment and beatings her daughter sometimes endures. It is a pain she carries silently, knowing there is little she can do to change it.
Nadeesha’s mind struggles with the weight of her circumstances, making it hard for her to express her feelings clearly. Yet despite this, she shows a quiet resilience—a fierce determination to provide for her children and give them a chance at a better future.
We’ve captured their voice so you can hear their story.
My name is Nadeesha Shayamali. I live in Kenehirigama, Kekirawa and I’m 38 years old. I have received a lot of help from Mr. Mehan, who has supported us in so many ways. Thanks to him, we now have access to water, a chicken coop, and even a school bag for my child.
How did your children go to school before?
In those very difficult times, if someone offered help, only then could they go to school.
I am deeply thankful to Mr. Mehan for helping me build my kitchen and toilet. All the preparations for getting the water facility are complete, and we have even paid the required money.
I was very mentally affected by our struggles, but Palmera has been giving me advice and guidance to cope. I am still attending the clinic and taking medicine, and my daughter is also mentally affected.
May God bless Mr. Mehan, who has been such a blessing to us, be blessed abundantly, and we wish him all the best in life. Thank you so much!
