You Backed them and things began to change
“Our house is broken, and we are just managing with what we have.”
Kajawathani is 22 and lives with her husband and their little daughter, who is three. It’s a small family, but even then, managing the house is not easy for them. Her husband does for any work he can find. Some days it is building work, some days field work, and some days odd jobs he may find. The money he makes is enough for food most of the time, but after that, there is not much left.
Kajawathani is at home now, but she’s trying hard to find a job. She finished an English course and wants to study more so she can find good work, maybe even become a teacher one day. She says one income is not enough now, with their toddler, and she knows she has to work too if they want to move forward in life.
Their house needs a lot of repair work. The walls are damaged, cement is falling off it, and the roof is tin, so it gets very hot inside. They want to fix it, but they are not able to right now. She tries to save small amounts when she can and keeps it aside, but it is not easy when the income is not steady.
Even when they tried to buy a small bicycle, she planned and saved for many months before they were able to afford it. She is careful with money and thinks ahead.
For her daughter, she wants a better life. Her hope is simple. She wants a steady job, to study more, and to slowly build their house properly, so the little one can grow up safe and happy. She is not just waiting on things. She is already trying, step by step, to make all this happen.
