When we first met Asanthi, the weight of her world was visible in every tired line of her face. At 39, she carries the heavy responsibility of raising three children, her eldest born with a disability that demands constant care. Every step she takes is a balancing act—caring for her daughter, providing for her family, and trying to keep hope alive in a life filled with struggle.

Each day is a fight for survival. Asanthi works tirelessly to put food on the table, yet the simple act of feeding her family is never guaranteed. Her hands are always full, her heart heavy with worry, and her eyes carry the silent exhaustion of a mother who gives everything and asks for so little in return.

Despite the hardship, there is a quiet resilience in her. Even when life feels overwhelming, she moves forward, driven by love and the unspoken promise that she will do whatever it takes for her children. Meeting her, you understand that her fight is not just for survival—it is for dignity, hope, and a chance for her children to dream beyond the struggles of today.

Helping Asanthi isn’t just about supporting one mother—it’s about giving a family the lifeline they need to breathe easier, to live with dignity, and to hold onto the fragile but powerful spark of hope that she carries every single day.

We’ve captured their voice so you can hear their story.

Could you please share a little about yourself?

My name is Asanthi Iresha Kumari, and I’m turning forty this year. I have three children.

How old are your children?

I have a daughter who is twenty-one years old and two sons—one is eighteen, and the youngest is eight years old.

Are the children attending school? What are they up to these days?

Right now, it’s school holidays now. But once school starts again, I will send them as usual.

What kind of support did you receive from Palmera to help send them to school?

Palmera built a chicken farm for me. Palmera helped by covering their transportation fees, which has been a big relief for me.

What do you usually do these days?

I spend most of my time taking care of the chickens. I also do wage work whenever I can.

How do you feel about managing the chickens?

I have no issues with it. In fact, I really enjoy it. I take care of them with passion, and it has become a meaningful part of my day.

How has working with Palmera impacted your life?

Palmera has helped me in so many ways. They’ve given me the strength and support to earn an income, which has really changed my life for the better. I am truly grateful for all the help I’ve received. The poultry farming has provided me with a steady path to improve my situation.

Mr. Siva is supporting you. Do you have a message for him?

Yes, I want to say a big thank you to Mr. Siva. He has done so much for me and my family. I’m deeply grateful for his kindness and generosity. I pray that he continues to receive blessings and more and more.
