You Backed them and things began to change
“Even in my childhood, when my father was sick, we struggled for everything, even to eat.”
Ajantha lives in Viragaththiveli in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka with her husband and their seven-month-old son. Her husband works as a daily laborer helping with building plastering and masonry. Work is not steady because when it rains, he can’t earn.
That makes paying for food and daily things hard, and sometimes they borrow from friends and family to get by, paying them back whenever they earn enough.
Ajantha used to work in pharmacies and medical shops, but now she has to stay home to take care of the baby. They are saving little by little to build a house that is safe and big enough to live in. Right now, they live in a temporary home while construction is going on. And everything costs more with a baby.
When Ajantha was growing up, her father got sick and her family struggled. Her sisters helped her continue school. She studied hard and even finished her HNDIT studies. But now she’s thinking about the future. Her husband will take any work he can find, and Ajanta manages the home and baby.
They are working to make life steady for their child, pay for the house, and cover everything their baby needs. She wants her son to study and become whatever he wants to be. She says she will give him all the support she can so that his future is a better one.
