In Memory of Sritharan

We are saddened to share that our father, Manickanadarasa Sritharan – fondly known as Sri – has passed away.

Instead of flowers, we are asking for donations to be made so that children in Sri Lanka can have a better tomorrow.

This was always important to my father, because he valued Education more than anything.

He was one of 10 children who grew up in Kokuvil, Sri Lanka. For my grandfather and my father, education was the only path to a better life – to have options in a country where war was imminent and to be able to better provide for his family.

He would share how he would focus on his studies, working hard each night with the little resources they had.

He was ranked in the top 10 students in Jaffna, but in that same year, a system of standardisation of marks was introduced for admissions to the universities. He was not admitted into University in Sri Lanka, but secured a scholarship to the Indian Institute of Technology in India.

He shared that this fate turned out to provide him many opportunities in life and one that he only had access to because of education.

My father lived a full life and in his passing, we hope for his legacy to continue to help families who need it most.

Sriyanthi, Sri’s eldest daughter, had a chance to spend time in the villages and see the impact of their work first hand.
