Silly Walk 2025

Hey all,
Silly Walk is back again this year!!

I’m raising money to support the great work that Palmera does in Sri Lanka. I’ll be walking 50Kms in 10hrs. Yes quite Silly indeed 🤪!! There will be many other walkers doing silly things like walking 30kms, 20kms and 10kms!
It’s not how far you walk, but that you keep walking 😉💪🏼

We hope that the small efforts we take will go a long way towards helping those desperately in need of support & assistance, particularly in these difficult times.

The idea to do a really long (read: silly) walk for a good cause started back in 2015 with DJ (brother) doing the 100km Palm Beach to Watsons Bay & Back walk. He did it for many reasons but one of them was to get his mental and physical health back in order. He smashed the 100kms alright (and conquered many of his demons along the way too!) as well as raising a ton of money for Palmera.

Sadly, 3 months after completing his walk, he passed away and shuffled off this mortal coil. He left behind wonderful memories for family and friends that will last us a lifetime.

One of our last few conversations before he left us was his wish to get our family & friends out walking regularly, as he had found it therapeutic and wanted others to get out there & conquer their own demons. We thought we’d put his advice into practice and give this walking thing a go! It’s not bad at all!

We held our very first Silly Walk in 2019 with 3 walkers doing the 100km and raised over $5,000. In 2020, we had 5 walkers doing the 100km, and raised another $5,000. In 2022, we had 3 walkers and raised almost $6,000 and in 2023 we raised almost $3500 . And we’ve kept on walking…!!

I hope to raise as much as I can this year!

Palmera works with small scale farmers and rural entrepreneurs to access profitable markets and create sustainable incomes so that no one is left out. Palmera believes the best way out of poverty is economic self sufficiency which delivers choice, freedom and dignity.

Please give generously!! 🙂💪🏼
Thanks
Abhi

Just a little more on Palmera so you know the difference it will make.

Palmera has always been close to my heart because of the way they work—deeply, thoughtfully, and with those who are so often left out. They’re committed to helping families not just survive, but truly thrive. What I love most is that they do this by using proven models that focus on increasing income and meeting basic needs in a sustainable way. You can read more about how they work here.

When you give to Palmera, they’ll also show you exactly what your donation is doing. That transparency matters. You’ll see the real impact you’re making, and you’ll know that every dollar you give is transforming the lives of families and entire communities.
