“His Goodness was not in what he had, but what he gave”

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Thambipillai Somasundaram (Soma) formerly of Dartbrook Road, Auburn and of late Lyne Road, Cheltenham Australia.

He was a son, a brother, a husband, a father & father in law, a grandfather, a friend and a medical practitioner. In so many ways his life was about giving and serving so what better way to celebrate a wonderful life than to give to others.

The family kindly request no flowers and instead contributions may be made to Palmera. This is in honour of a wonderful life lived and we seek to make the lives of others better.

Funeral, viewing and last rites will be held on Thursday the 24th, East Chapel at the Rookwood Cemetery from 11.15 am 12.45 PM.

Somasundaram was married to Savitri Devi and is survived by his brother Vigneswaran, sister in law Ariyeswary (UK), sons and daughters in law Giritharan & Surendrini, Shanker & Amirthi (USA), Sashi & Niranji (Canada) and foster daughter Mary (Malaysia), grandchildren Abarna, Gopikrishna, Ryan & Anita (USA) and Anjana (Canada).

He was uncle (Periyappa) of Sivajeevan, Sivadharshan, Sivedhini (UK) Sivanthy (Canada) and Sivahar (Sri Lanka). Somasundaram was the brother in law of Nagulambikai & Kanagasabai, Sivaneswari & Gnanasegaran, Sivanandam, Thayaparan & Gnanamalar (Malaysia) Sivapatham (Sri Lanka), Sivayoham & Indira (UK)

May his soul rest in peace.

-Giri, Shanker and Sashi

We have been supporters of Palmera and are very passionate about the work they do in Sri Lanka. This is Soma’s homeland of 70 years, his heart and his people. Palmera works with widows of war living in the most challenging of circumstances to improve their livelihood. Contributions will specifically go to the Livelihood Kickstarter project. They do this by supporting micro business solutions for rural entrepreneurs and strengthening the environments in which they live so families can stand on their own two feet.
