Jaya’s 30th Birthday
As I approach my 30th and with everything going on this year, I’ve certainly had the chance to reflect on the privilege of growing up the way i have in Australia. I’ve been blessed to have wonderful family and friends, who support me in every way. However I know the same cannot be said for everyone, so in place of a birthday gift, I’m inviting you to make a donation to Palmera Projects instead. Palmera is an Australian not-for-profit organisation that implements livelihood projects in rural and vulnerable communities in Sri Lanka. I’ve followed their work closely for years and they truly make a difference by empowering these communities with the knowledge and skills to earn a living income that they can carry forward.
I’m very excited for the funds to be going to the Banking On Change For Good Project (seemed appropriate too)! This project brings together 400 women who will be supported to set up a women’s village bank. The savings groups will let these women develop financial literacy and leadership skills, strengthen their capacity to advocate for issues that matter to them, and improve the village networks. This project costs as little as $189 per woman over the 5 years we will be working on this programme.
While a lockdown might make celebrating a little different this year, there’s still plenty of room for joy so it would mean the world if you could donate what you can afford to this cause instead of any gifts. See you soon!
Much Love,
Jaya
