Dilan’s 1st Birthday

On 25th October 2021 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic Dilan (affectionately known otherwise by dilli, dillu chelam, dillubar) came into our world. We thought that we would be so ready to take on the challenge of raising a baby with all the planning, but at the end we still found ourselves learning again as we navigated our first 12 months with this miracle.

Dilan finds joy in watching Disney songs, listening to Encanto and Frozen on repeat. He is big with shiny objects, especially gold rings and chains, loves his milk, and has the most infectious laugh! He loves bashing his toys around and standing up most of the time (go figure!)

He wakes up every morning flapping his hands excited about life standing up on his cot waiting to be picked up. It’s our favourite part of the day as we contest for the opportunity to pick him up so we can experience that moment with him. Through that we’ve been reminded that life is a great adventure, every morning another exciting opportunity to discover what is in store for us.

Most importantly, Dilan wants nothing more than the basics – food, a safe place to sleep and the love of those around him. In return he gives us and the world all his love for life and curiosity. In this we’ve come to see that in life we should only take the little we need and give all we have.

We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Dilan by giving to such causes.

This year, we’ve decided to set up an appeal should our family and friends buy gifts for Dilan. We would love for this to go to the Palmera’s crisis appeal . Sri Lanka has been facing an unprecedented economic crisis since 1948 with much of the 5.7m people (half of them children) in urgent humanitarian need.

Many of you, our family and closest friends, have asked about gifting Dilan’s for his first birthday. We ask this year that you celebrate with him by giving to this cause because you’ve already given him what he needs this year – your love.

Thank you!
