Back a House for Kajathri

  • Mullaithivu

Kajathri’s family doesn’t have a safe home. They live in a temporary shelter, and during the rainy season, water comes inside. The floor gets wet. The air gets damp. And for one of her children, that’s not just uncomfortable. It’s very dangerous.

Her youngest son was born with a serious illness. Because of it, he already struggles with malnutrition. His body has a harder time fighting things off.

And right now, the house he’s living in is full of the kind of mould and germs that makes his situation worse. Even her healthy child finds it hard not to get sick in these conditions.

She and her husband have been married fifteen years. Their two boys are both still young and in school. Her husband does daily wage work to keep the family going. It’s enough to eat and pay for school. They get through the week. But the money he earns isn’t enough to build.

What a house means for this family is more than a roof over their heads. It means their son isn’t sleeping in a wet room, falling sick all the time. It means the thing most likely to send him to hospital is gone.

And we want to give Kajathri this future. By building her a home, together with you.
