Help families access the basic protections they need to build a better future.
Reedimalaya, located in Sri Lanka’s central highlands in the Badulla District, is not a place marked by conflict—but it is marked by quiet poverty. Here, amidst the mist-covered hills and smallholder farms, most families get by through daily labour and cultivation on small plots of land.
While large-scale housing need is not widespread, a small group of families remain deeply vulnerable—those who have been left behind by other support systems. As a depth organisation, we focus on exactly these families: the ones overlooked, isolated, or burdened by barriers too complex for mainstream interventions.
Some families live in unsafe, crumbling shelters. Others may own land, but without formal tenure or basic infrastructure like toilets and water, they remain exposed and unsupported. These are the families we’re here to support.
When I met Kanthi, she was at a breaking point. Her roof leaked with every rain, the mud walls of her home were on the verge of collapse. Her daughter, who lives with a mental disability, needed ongoing medical care—but with no income and rising costs, Kanthi had to stop the clinic visits. Now, the two of them live alone, isolated and vulnerable, with nowhere to turn and no protection.

This project will help change that.
We will work with 10 families, reaching around 50 people across Reedimalaya, providing them with secure, dignified homes—and the foundation they need to begin rebuilding their lives.
Through close collaboration with the local Grama Niladhari, community collectives, and divisional authorities, we have identified those most in need—not based on numbers, but on depth of vulnerability.
How we’ll make it happen:
- Securing land rights: Many families live on land without formal title. We will work closely with government authorities to ensure families have legal tenure and the necessary documentation to live without fear of eviction.
- Building strong, lasting homes: With the support of government engineers, community members, and our team, we will ensure that all homes are built to quality standards—safe, durable, and designed to last.
Why this matters
When families no longer have to worry about their shelter—about rain seeping in, walls collapsing, or eviction looming—their energy can finally go toward what matters: feeding their children, sending them to school, planning for tomorrow.
Secure housing, water, and identity aren’t luxuries. They are the starting point for living with dignity, and the foundation for earning a stable, living income.
This project is not about numbers—it’s about people. And it’s about ensuring no one is left behind.
Donate today and help these families secure their basic rights—and take the first step toward a life of dignity and possibility.
